In 2022 while on a residency in Portugal a series of ink paintings and tile paintings were made in response to the 18th Century Azulejo ceramic tiles. The series of playfully painted, bleeding blue-ink marble tiles were based on local findings of historical erotic images found at Estremoz market; as well as local characters and creatures from the area.
The Blue ink paintings were developed in a series of Prosthetic Pin -Ups in response to an accident and hip replacement surgery during the last week on residence. A pun on the accidental display of ‘opps’ knicker dropping with small dog used here in the awkwardness of dressing and undressing after hip surgery.
