'I can read your thought's...
an interactive project linking the traditional
intaglio printing techniques, with objects in installation, to new technology
of digital printing methods.
The project 'I can read your thoughts' started in 1999 when I found a number of
chrome frame chairs outside my studio, the chairs had no seats at the time
which gave me the idea to make the seats out of photo-etched plates.
Text about memories
relating to the chair were etched into the metal seats both on top and in reverse underneath as they were displayed on mirror plates . I wanted to involve the
public with the project, so people were asked to write their thoughts on their
experiences and associations with the chair or the chairs association with
them. The chairs went on display outside either the gallery where the work
would be shown or in a central location of the city. They could offer their own
pieces of text and imagery to have a chair made up and displayed back in the
gallery space.
